FORD POWER STROKE
AMSOIL PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS(6.0L, 6.4L, 7.3L)
The 6.0L Power Stroke uses a canister element oil filter on top of the engine.
The AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Synthetic Oil Filter for the 6.0 PSD is Part #EAO-88. The 1994-2003
7.3L Power Stroke Oil Filter Part # is EAO-99. and have a change interval specification of
25,000-miles/1-year. No other company has an oil filter that has these specifications except
AMSOIL. When using the AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel oil or the Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy
Duty Diesel oil, the oil filter element must be changed at 25,000-miles/1-year. The specification
on the oil is 25,000-miles/1-year, or longer with oil analysis testing. More detailed information
on the differences between the two oils can be read here.
6.4L Power Stroke
engines have an EGR system and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) on the exhaust system and must use
the AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium API CJ-4 Diesel Oil, product code
DEO. This is the only
choice due to the DPF. The change interval is recommended for the longest service interval
established by the engine, vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Drain intervals may be extended
based on oil analysis.
Note: As time goes by and we gather oil analysis data on the 6.4L with the DPF the 5W-40 may
possibly be specified for longer intervals (25,000 miles/1-year) like the 6.0L & 7.3L are,
however it is too new to have any significant oil analysis field data. Right now the only way to
use it beyond Ford specs is to perform oil analysis testing, preferably in conjunction with by-pass
filtration. I have photos of the by-pass system on both 6.0 and 6.4L engines, they both have
similar mounting.

Gear/Differential Fluids
The front and rear differentials use the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140 Gear
Lube. No friction modifier is required. AMSOIL does offer a friction modifier called Slip
Lock in the rare event that a limited slip differential develops chatter on turns.
75W-90 gear lube is recommended by many other manufacturers because it is more
fuel efficient than a 75W-140. Ford uses a 75W-140 synthetic gear lube in the rear axles of all
production trucks. Chevy prefers 75W-90 mainly due to fuel economy concerns for CAFE. I personally
recommend the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140 because during extensive severe durability testing
performed by Ford and Dana, the 75W-140 outperformed the 75W-90. That does not mean the 75W-90 is
not good to use, just that the 75W-140 is better under certain severe conditions. Most front
differentials recommend 75W-90 or 80W-90 because the front axle is typically not used very much so
they can get by with a lower cost oil. You do not need AMSOIL Slip Lock friction modifier unless
you hear chatter on turns, which only happens in a very small percentage of applications. In some
rare cases, if you do hear chatter on turns, then you will need to install a bottle of AMSOIL's
Slip-Lock Differential Additive. Its convenient flip-top dispenser provides quick and easy
application to the gear housing. One four-ounce bottle of Slip-Lock treats differential capacities
of two to four quarts.

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Performance Fuel
Additive
AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF) provides maximum diesel operating efficiency.
It compensates for the variances in quality of different fuels (including biodiesel) and the
deficiencies of today’s Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD) for better engine operation. New engine
technology, tighter tolerances and emissions regulations require high quality diesel fuel for
long-term engine operatibility. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate improves diesel fuel quality to exceed
today’s stringent performance requirements. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate extends equipment life,
lowers operating costs and improves diesel performance. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate provides the
following benefits:
-
Improves Fuel Economy
and Restores Horsepower
-
Lubricates Fuel Pump
and Injectors: ULSD has significantly reduced lubricity – a critical property in
controlling wear in fuel pumps and injectors. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate adds back in all
the lubricity properties needed and more.
-
Reduces Cylinder wear.
Retains Engine Oil TBN Longer
-
Minimizes Soot
Loading
-
Stabilizes
Fuel
-
Improves Water
Tolerance
Use one ounce of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate to five gallons of fuel.
High fuel prices are increasing operating costs for everyone. AMSOIL Diesel
Concentrate has proven in industry standard tests to improve fuel economy in used diesel engines by
up to five percent. At $3.00 per gallon for diesel fuel, even a modest three percent improvement in
fuel economy equals a savings of $0.09 per gallon. With a treat rate of one oz. of AMSOIL Diesel
Concentrate to five gallons of fuel, at U.S. Preferred Customer/Dealer prices the net treat cost of
AMSOIL ADF is $0.06 per gallon, bringing the total savings to $0.03 per gallon and negating the
cost of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate altogether.

AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver
Combining AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate with a cold flow improvement property is
not cost effective in the summer months, or to AMSOIL customers who live in the south. To keep
costs down for Dealers and customers, AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate no longer includes a cold flow
improver. Instead, AMSOIL provides new AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver (DFF) for low-temperature
applications below 40°F. Recommended mix ratio is one ounce of additive per five gallons of fuel.
AMSOIL Cetane Boost will raise cetane levels up to 7 points for improved performance and fuel
economy.

Injen/AMSOIL Diesel
Air Intake Systems (Ford F-250, F-350, F-450)
AMSOIL now offers the Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Diesel Air Intake series with revolutionary Variable
Induction Technology. The new VI Technology process is a multi-power air induction system that
fills the plenum with air, giving added power on demand. The Power Box on the Diesel series is
manufactured using a composite mix of glass-filled nylon and polypropylene designed for noticeably
quiet operation. The Power Box was designed for advanced cooling efficiency and the ability to
resist high temperatures. It will not distort, unlike other plastic components that lose their
structural integrity over time. This ground-breaking material makes it possible for the integration
of a built-in velocity stack that streamlines the air turbulence into the plenum air chamber by way
of the multi-power induction system. Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems are manufactured with
aerospace alloy T6 aluminum, stainless steel clamps and tig-welded ports and brackets. They are
dyno-tuned for peak performance and have a direct bolt in application, making installation quick
and easy.
Amsoil/Injen
Aftermarket Air Intake System
Air-Intake System Design
Cold air intake systems serve several important functions. Primarily, they are used to increase the
amount of oxygen available to the engine, increasing power. Because cool air has greater density
than hot air, aftermarket intakes improve combustion of fuel by capturing cooler air from outside
the engine compartment. In addition, an aftermarket air intake system increases the diameter of the
intake as compared to the original equipment, increasing air flow into the engine and making more
oxygen available during the combustion process. For further information please visit the
Injen/Amsoil Air-Intake Systems page.
